Buchanan County Community Foundation
awards 16 grant endowments

The Buchanan County Community Foundation (BCCF) announced this year’s grant recipients at a banquet held Wednesday, June 25, at Bill’s Pizza and Smokehouse in Independence.  Rural Water sign-up begins

Quasqueton and Rowley residents officially began signing up for rural water hook-up on Thursday, June 26. According to Central Iowa Water Association officials stationed in Quasqueton City Hall, the response by residents signing up for water has been outstanding.

“We’ve been busy since we’ve got here,” said Kristie Wildung, Communities and Expansion Project Manager. “And, we’ve heard that the sign-up in Rowley has been equally busy.”

Wildung went on to say, that construction could begin as early as this fall, if all goes as expected. Kristie is pictured above, helping residents sign up for rural water at Quasqueton City Hall. (Tari Robertson Photo)

Habitat for Humanity launches fund-raising campaign

Look for the cows!

Buchanan County Habitat for Humanity has begun to showcase it latest fund-raising campaign.

About a dozen plywood cows, named and painted to feature their unique personalities, were recently seen in The Winthrop Days Parade. Look for them in the Independence 4th of July parade, and the Farmers Day Parade in Jesup. Jesup is the site for a new Habitat for Humanity home, which will begin construction in September.

The cows are looking for foster parents. You may become a foster parent for one week for $25; two weeks for $50; 0ne month for $100; and 3-plus months for $300.  These cows can be displayed in your yard as they are very attractive and will certainly be a conversation piece.

The cows’ names include Billy, Moe, JD (yellow and green), Huey, Gibson, Sam, Flo, and Parker.

To become a foster parent call Donna Pettit at 319-361-1294 (cell), or 319-334-4104. Cows will be fostered out after the Farmers Day Parade, so call to get your chance to be part of this fun event.

The cows will return to Buchanan County Habitat’s possession so they can be auctioned off at our annual Soup Supper and Choir Concert. The date of that event has not been set, but will mostly likely be in October.
