EB Jazz Band plays at Coe College Jazz Summit

On Feb. 26, the East Buchanan Jazz Band traveled to Cedar Rapids for the Coe College Jazz Summit.  While there, they performed three songs: “Off the Record” by Doug Beach; “Blue Train” by John Coltrane; and “Cubano Chant” by Mike Story.

After the band was finished, they attended a clinic with the judges over what they could do to improve in later competitions.

EB Speech sends two to Individual State competition

On Feb. 27, the EB speech students participated in the district individual speech event at Maquoketa Valley High School.   Earning scores of I were Charlie Smith and Alissa Lewis (pictured here.)  The I score qualified these two members for the state competition to be held March 13 at Starmont.

Other district competitors fell short of qualifying but also turned in solid performances including Wade Peck and Tyler Smith in Improv, Sara Mueggenburg and Melanie Weber in Prose, and Taylor Daubenberger in Literary Program.

The state speech contest will be held close by at Starmont on March 13.  Lewis will be performing her Expository Address during the 8 AM time slot while Smith will be doing Radio News during the 9:04 AM slot.  Lewis is back on during the 1 PM slot for her Lit Program.  Smith will compete in Improv during the 2:20 PM section.

Spectators should arrive at the event centers early because centers will run ahead of schedule if possible. Admission is $4 which includes a program.

Go to Starmont and support Charlie and Alissa while being entertained by a multitude of talented students from the northeastern part of the state.

Attention EB Alumni and Reunion committees

The East Buchanan Tech Team is developing personal web pages for East Buchanan Alumni to let classmates see where they have gone in life, and keep up to date with their friends and former classmates.

We are asking for the following: name, family, residence, hobbies, activities/organizations, successes/achievements, college and major, jobs held since graduation, current employment, military service (yes/no) --if yes, then when served, which branch, and where stationed-- and contact information.

These web pages are similar to Classmates.com, but without having to “upgrade to be a gold member” to see what your old classmates have been up to lately. If you would like one of these pages contact the East Buchanan Tech Team at techteam@east-buc.k12.ia.us.

Also if class reunion committees would like their class reunion information posted on the school web site, please email the tech team at the above e-mail address.
